Clemson symposium to feature the dynamics of white-collar crime

March 31, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – March 31, 2010 –  There are many types of crime and on Wednesday, April 7, at Clemson University, experts will discuss the crime that occurs in the suites rather than the streets.

Beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the Self Auditorium at the Strom Thurmond Institute, the fourth annual White Collar Crime Symposium, sponsored by the College of Business and Behavioral Science, will include discussion about the forms of white-collar crime, how to detect it and the barriers to prosecuting it.

“A discussion on this particular type of crime is always important, said Terry Leap, a Clemson management professor, the symposium host and author of Dishonest Dollars: The Dynamics of White-Collar Crime.

This symposium will deal with how white-collar criminals and their victims think and behave, he said. It will provide information about some of the latest financial crimes, especially those involving computers and related technology,”

Symposium speakers include:

    * Daniel Quinn Mills, the Alfred J. Weatherhead Jr. Professor of Business Administration emeritus at the Harvard Business School, and author of Wheel, Deal, and Steal: Deceptive Accounting, Deceitful CEOs, and Ineffective Reforms;
    * Stanton E. Samenow, forensic psychologist and author of Inside the Criminal Mind;
    * Dave Thomas of the FBI’s Columbia office and an expert on white-collar and cyber crime; and
