College of Charleston to offer community human resources class

June 5, 2025

The School of Business at the College of Charleston is offering an introductory Fundamentals of Human Resources open to the community, scheduled to begin June 23.

The hybrid course is suitable for new HR professionals and those who do not work in HR but find themselves performing a lot of HR tasks in their work, like recruitment, hiring, and employee retention.

According to SHRM, 73% of U.S. managers say they perform HR tasks like hiring, onboarding, or managing conflict—often without any formal training.

“Many professionals are tasked with HR responsibilities without working in HR,” says Michelle Futrell, executive director of continuing and professional education at the College of Charleston School of Business. “We are proud to offer this course to help bridge that knowledge gap by offering practical and accessible learning opportunities that help the community advance professionally.”
