CSU Master of Science in Nursing granted accreditation

August 8, 2012

CHARLESTON, SC – August 8, 2012 – The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) announced it has granted accreditation to Charleston Southern University’s Master of Science in Nursing program. The MSN program, which enrolled its first class in 2009, is a faith-based nurse educator graduate program that prepares nurses to serve in the faculty/nurse educator roles within the health care setting.

“The NLNAC accreditation for Charleston Southern’s Master of Science in Nursing indicates the excellence of our program,” said Dr. Tara Hulsey, dean of the School of Nursing. “This acknowledges that CSU’s MSN program meets or exceeds the standards and criteria established to designate educational quality.”

Charleston Southern’s MSN curriculum prepares graduates to develop and evaluate curriculum and to effectively implement innovative teaching strategies using multiple learning formats while emphasizing the spiritual, ethical, and moral dimensions of the art of nursing. The MSN degree in Nursing Education prepares nurses to teach at a faculty level in nursing programs as well as to accept educator positions within hospital and clinic settings.
The NLNAC Board of Commissioners also granted Charleston Southern’s Derry Patterson Wingo School of Nursing baccalaureate nursing program (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) continued accreditation. The Charleston Southern University School of Nursing program is one of only 15 schools in the country chosen to pilot the integration of national quality and safety competencies into the BSN curriculum.

“The leadership and commitment of Dean Tara Hulsey and our dedicated faculty are helping the University achieve its vision of integrating faith in learning, leading and serving,” said CSU President Jairy C. Hunter.

In 2011, Board of Trustees unanimously voted last week to expand enrollment of CSU’s nursing program. In February, Charleston Southern officials announced a 10-year Strategic Transformation Plan which included expansion of the Derry Patterson Wingo School of Nursing facilities.

The Charleston Southern University Derry Patterson Wingo School of Nursing offers a baccalaureate undergraduate degree, an RN-BSN completion degree, Health Promotion and a Master of Science in Nursing program. The programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and is a member of the National League for Nursing and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
