Family Connection of SC announces two new board members

COLUMBIA, SC – July  5, 2013  – Family Connection of South Carolina, a statewide nonprofit organization that supports families who have children with special health care needs, has announced two new members to its board of directors for 2013-2014.

The new members are Ashley Collier, account executive manager for the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), and Grace Stewart, health policy consultant at South Carolina First Steps.

“We are thrilled to have Ashley and Grace join our diverse board,” said Jackie Richards, Family Connection’s executive director.  “Ashley has the energy and experience to help our board focus on development and relationship building. Grace has worked with systems of care for children and in health and has the skills to guide and position Family Connection a we seeks to build strong collaborations for systems of care for children in South Carolina,” said Richards.

As account executive manager for the NMDP, Collier is responsible for recruitment, outreach and fundraising for South Carolina. Prior to joining the NMDP, she worked for the University of South Carolina (USC) in the office of Corporate & Foundation Relations where she did corporate fundraising and grant writing for university programs and projects. Collier has 20 years of experience working with Special Olympics. She attended the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where she majored in physical education and sport management.  

Stewart has worked for SC First Steps for the last five years as the director of the Nurse Family Partnership program and most recently as a health policy consultant for the agency.  Previously she worked on a system of care improvement grant at the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS).  Stewart also has worked in marketing in the private sector and in government affairs for two large trade associations.  She has masters’ degrees in Healthcare Administration and Public Administration.  Stewart is the mother of three boys and currently lives in Irmo, S.C.

Family Connection of South Carolina (Family Connection) is a nonprofit organization that provides support, information and resources to families and professionals who care for children of all ages with special healthcare needs, disabilities or chronic illnesses. The organization was founded in 1989 by a group of South Carolina parents who have children with disabilities and special needs with the mission to strengthen and encourage families through parent support.
