Furman Professor Publishes New Book On Changing Corporate Culture

GREENVILLE, C – December 15, 2010 – Furman University professor David E. Shaner has written a new book that explains how combining Eastern philosophy with Western business savvy can foster real and lasting organizational change.

The Seven Arts of Change: Leading Business Transformation That Lasts is published by Union Square Press.  Shaner is the Herring Professor of Asian Studies and Philosophy at Furman.

Shaner’s book combines lessons drawn from his four decades of Aikidoand a 30-year consulting career.  He merges Eastern philosophy withWestern business practice to examine the arts of preparation,relaxation, and compassion.  The Seven Arts of Change demonstrates howindividual adjustments from the CEO down can transform a company andchange corporate culture in new and unconventional ways.

He holds a master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii where he specialized in Japanese Buddhist philosophy. He is author of The Bodymind Experience in Japanese Buddhism and co-author of Science and Comparative Philosophy. Shaner has also taught at Harvard University when he was awarded an Andrew W.
