Glenn McCall of Rock Hill appointed to represent Mick Zais on Winthrop board

COLUMBIA, SC – February 18, 2011 – Glenn A. McCall of Rock Hill, aretired financial executive and board member for the South CarolinaDepartment of Health and Environmental

Control, has been asked to serve as State Superintendent of EducationMick Zais’ designee on Winthrop University’s Board of Trustees. 

Glenn McCall is a man of character and integrity who will bring abusiness perspective to the Winthrop University Board of Trustees, Zaissaid.  I know he will serve with distinction and honor, and I’mgrateful for his willingness to serve his state in this new capacity.

McCall will serve in an ex officio capacity along with Gov. NikkiHaley’s designee.  The 14-member board has general supervision over theuniversity and its operations.  Twelve trustees are elected by jointballot of the state Senate and House of Representatives, appointed bythe governor or elected by the alumni association. The chairs ofWinthrop’s Faculty Conference and Council of Student Leaders also serveas non-voting members.

McCall has been representing the Fifth Congressional District seat onthe DHEC board, but he will resign that post and assume his new role atWinthrop.  He is a retired senior vice president for Charlotte-basedBank of America, where he led the customer behavior analysis team.  A1982 graduate of the University of Maryland, McCall holds a bachelor’sdegree in management information systems and an MBA from AmberUniversity School of Business.  

During his 20-plus years in the financial services field, McCallspecialized in strategic planning, revenue growth, cost reduction,technology and operations management.  In recent years, his teamsanalyzed customer behavior to create tailored marketing campaigns andonline banking services.

McCall completed 10 years active duty in the U.S. Air Force and served14 years in the Texas Air National Guard.  In addition to his DHEC boardservice, McCall is a former board member of the South Carolina HumanAffairs Commission and the York County chapter of the American RedCross.
