Godow named vice president at Trident Technical College

CHARLESTON, SC – Septetmber 17, 2010 – Trident Technical College has named Rew “Skip” Godow vice president for Continuing Education and Economic Development. 

Godow is responsible for managing the Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development, which provides services to improve the competitiveness and quality of the area’s businesses. The division promotes economic development through custom-designed programs and consulting services, and offerings in licensure and certification, and career renewal and enhancement. Last year, the division had approximately 45,000 registrations and offered more than 1,000 public courses.
 
The division delivers training in professional and organizational development, health care, manufacturing, construction trades, environmental and OSHA compliance, and personal enrichment. Classes are held online, on all three TTC campuses and at other sites throughout the Lowcountry. The division works with companies including Bosch, Boeing, Kapstone, Alcoa, Santee Cooper, the S.C. State Ports Authority and Charleston Water System to develop and offer customized work force training.

Most recently, Godow served as executive director and CEO of the Lowcountry Graduate Center. As head of the LGC, he helped develop 20 new doctoral, master’s, certificate and noncredit programs to meet the educational needs of the community. During his tenure, the LGC won the Charleston Regional Business Journal’s Innovator Award and the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural 1773 Award for excellence in education.

“Skip Godow’s understanding of both education and economic development makes him perfect for this position,” said TTC President Mary Thornley. “He’s partnered with both public and private entities to develop educational programs that bolster our area’s competitiveness. At TTC, he’ll work with the business community and economic development officials to identify new areas of opportunity for work force development and ensure that we continue to deliver the quality training that has been so crucial in attracting new companies and growing existing businesses.”

Active in the community, Godow has served on the board of directors of the Trident United Way, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, the Education Foundation and the Charleston Education Network. He has also served on the Community Advisory Committee for the Charleston County School District, on the board of advisors and steering committee for ThinkTec, and on the S.C. Commission on Higher Education Action Plan Subcommittee.

 Godow earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in philosophy from the University of Illinois. He also attended the Education Leadership Program at Yale University.
