Greenville County Voted Top 10 Places to Enjoy Fall Colors!

September 14, 2011

What if there was a place right here in Greenville County where you could experience some of the best fall foliage in North America? Well, according to AAA there is.

The Red Horse Inn, located just 28 miles from Downtown Greenville in Landrum, SC, was recently chosen by AAA inspectors as one of the Top 10 Places to Enjoy Fall Colors.

Inspectors went coast to coast looking for the best places to see the brilliant foliage. They chose the AAA 4-Diamond Red Horse Inn because of the location and quality of accommodations- as well as the top-notch innkeepers. They continue that the Inn- which is located on more than 200 acres at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains offers breathtaking views of the natural surroundings, rock formations and foliage. Miles of paths surrounding the property provide ample opportunities for leisurely strolls or vigorous exercise.

Other top 10 Inns were located in Virginia, Maryland, Oregon, New England, Minnesota, British Columbia, and Canada.

Peak foliage season here in the Upstate is from the second to fourth week in October as a general rule of thumb but will continue into November.

This came as no surprise to Innkeeper Mary Wolters, who with her husband built the Inn- which sits on 200 acres from the ground up.

The scenic views here are one of our greatest selling points. It enhances the overall serenity of the Inn. We’re always at capacity during foliage months- but it’s nice now that the world knows our little secret.

With rooms starting at just $175 per night, the Red Horse Inn is a perfect fall escape for couples. The Inn features 6 private cottages and 6 rooms that are part of the main Inn. Each cottage boasts its own kitchen, bedroom, living room, fireplace, deck and or patio, and whirlpool. Breakfast is provided daily in each room- in in-room refrigerators- muffins, fresh fruit parfaits, egg casseroles, juice, coffee, tea, oatmeal- and of course, grits, are stocked daily so the couple never has to leave their room.

Guests can go on day-excursions in the near-by mountains- with wineries and trails full of more than 50 waterfalls, covered bridges, golf courses, antiquing and more just miles away- or they can choose to do nothing but relax in a rocking chair and enjoy the quiet serenity and magnificent fall colors and panoramic mountain views.
