Director of Transformative and Inclusive Pedagogy

The Office of Transformative and Inclusive Pedagogy provides vision and strategic leadership to guide institution-wide conversations about and implementation of principles of transformational learning and inclusive pedagogy. The Director of Transformative and Inclusive Pedagogy collaborates with academic units and individual faculty members to facilitate campus-wide inquiry and innovation in order to build academic resilience by design. Applying research-based best practices in the evolving field of higher education, the Director of Transformative and Inclusive Pedagogy determines needs, advises, and supports faculty members and academic leadership in adopting and implementing high-impact classroom practices, including but not limited to inclusive pedagogy, active learning, project-based learning, problem-based learning, service/community engagement, action research, experiential learning, live role play/simulation, use of case studies, use of authentic assessments and assignments, and credit for prior learning. The Director serves as a partner with faculty in their efforts to decrease DFW rates, integrate career-readiness strategies, develop a growth mindset in themselves and their students, develop their mentoring capacities, and understand the issues of first-generation, non-traditional, and transfer students and students from other underrepresented groups. The Director will work as a member of the Center for Academic Innovation and Faculty Support to support the University’s objectives to be a model of excellence in rigorous, career-relevant, and accessible education that fosters an inclusive campus environment.
• Establish and deliver professional development curricula to promote rigorous, career-relevant, accessible education through the use of evidence-based strategies in transformative and inclusive pedagogy, academic resilience, metacognition, and student motivation. Implement program assessment and follow-up processes for sustaining faculty communities of practice in priority areas, such as active learning, hybrid learning, project-based learning, inclusive pedagogy, adult learners, first-generation learners, and other areas as identified in coordination with deans, academic unit leaders, faculty, Student Success, and the Center for Academic Innovation and Faculty Support team.
• Provide leadership in peer teaching observations, including evidence-based professional development for Peer Teaching Fellows and coordination of institution-wide opportunities for peer review and peer teaching observations.
• Coordinate with the Center for Academic Innovation and Faculty Support team and with institution-wide student success efforts to use data to evaluate and continuously improve professional development efforts and faculty support services and to identify new needs and areas for growth.
• Serve as a source of communication and a point of contact for faculty and other stakeholders to seek consultations and to find information about best practices, developments in transformative and inclusive pedagogy, faculty and program successes, and larger initiatives related to these areas.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, or related field and 3 years experience in leadership or in curriculum management or development in higher education; or Ph.D. in any field, research experience and expertise in area(s) of transformative and inclusive pedagogy, and leadership experience in teaching and learning professional development. A successful background check is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with data-driven decision-making, strategic planning, grants administration and project assessment, instructional technology, and universal design. Interest in and/or experience with contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Salary: $68,660 – $75,000; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
