Lexington District One promotes two educators to PES assistant principal

On Tuesday, May 31, 2022, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees approved the promotion of two educators to the position of Pelion Elementary School assistant principal — Callie Holman and Shirley Waldy. Holman and Waldy replace current PES assistant principals Casey Davis, who is transferring to Forts Pond Elementary as the school’s new assistant principal, and Stephen Deyo, who was promoted to Gilbert Elementary principal. These positions are effective July 1, 2022.

Callie Holman

Callie Holman currently serves as New Providence Elementary School’s music teacher and the district’s elementary music team leader. Holman stepped into the classroom in 2011 to teach music with Berkeley County School District. She was named Sangaree Elementary School’s Rookie Teacher of the Year in 2011. In 2015, she transferred to Richland County School District One to teach music. Holman joined the Lexington District One family in 2017. During her time as a music educator, her performing groups received top ratings at state festivals, and she coached many students into earning a spot in all-state honor ensembles. In addition to teaching music, Holman also served as a mentor, evaluator and coaching teacher for Lexington District One, as well as an instructional team leader at NPES. She is one of the site leads for the Summer Connections Camp for elementary students. Holman graduated from University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in music education. She obtained her master’s degree in education administration from University of South Carolina in 2019. She completed the Aspiring Assistant Principal program in 2021. Holman is a member of the National Association for Music Educators and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.

Shirley Waldy

Shirley Waldy currently serves as the interim assistant principal at Pelion Middle School. She is also the computer science and business education teacher for the Lexington One Online Learning Academy. Waldy started her teaching career in 2004 in Florida, as the computer science teacher at Seffner Christian Academy. She spent five years in Hillsborough County Public Schools in Tampa, where she taught computer science, third through fifth grade gifted and talented, and was the administrator for the summer pre-kindergarten program. She also worked at Winthrop Charter School, in Riverview, FL, and for three years, served as the technology teacher, sixth grade math teacher, curriculum resource teacher and administrator in training. In 2016, Waldy moved to South Carolina to teach fifth grade at Harbison West Elementary School in District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties. In 2017, Waldy joined the Lexington District One family, when she was hired to teach computer science and business technology at River Bluff High School. She graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in computer science. She also has a master’s degree in educational leadership from University of South Florida. Waldy completed the Aspiring Assistant Principal program in 2018.
