Lighting the way to graduation for South Carolina public school students
November 10, 2021Communities In Schools of South Carolina launches Illuminating the Power of One – a fundraising event honoring students, aligning private resources, and unifying the state
Communities In Schools of South Carolina (CISSC), a leading provider of integrated student supports across the country and in South Carolina’s Title I (K-12) public schools, is launching an inaugural event – Illuminating the Power of One.
The event, which is being held on Sunday, November 14 from 5 to 6PM, will honor students across South Carolina who are served by the CISSC program. The event will also raise funds to support the organization’s strategic plan to strengthen, deepen, and grow its impact throughout the state. Aligned with the kickoff of National Education Week (November 15-19), participants will light luminaires at four locations in South Carolina– including the South Carolina State House Steps in Columbia.
Education advocates across the state can support the event by donating $10 to light a luminary in honor of a CISSC student. Whether honoring one student for $10, five for $50, ten for $100 – or even 250 students for $2,500 – supporters play a critical role in lighting the way for student success in school and beyond. Local companies wishing to pledge their support to public education can also sponsor luminaries at the $250, $500, $1,000, and $2,500 level.
“This event will serve many purposes for our team and the mission of our work. It will allow us to honor our students and their families, motivate and inspire educational advocates, and raise funds for the future of our work,” stated Jamie Cooper, CISSC President & CEO.
“As a new school partner with CISSC, I can see the value in their work every day,” stated Jamie Brunson, Fairfield Middle School Principal. “They have a clear vision and commitment to light the pathway for students to reach milestones even in their darkest moments.”
“The support Communities in Schools has given the students at Pine Ridge Middle School is immeasurable,” said Principal Dr. David Basile. “I have seen so many turn-around stories that all I can say is – Thank You.”
This event was made possible thanks to presenting sponsors from across the state: Colonial Life, Dominion Energy, A James Global Services, Greenville Federal Credit Union, Clarke & Company, The City of North Charleston, and Archie Franchini and Sean L. Atkinson.
