Mauldin Community Goes “Freezin’ for a Reason” at Annual Polar Plunge

February 25, 2026

It may have been cold outside, but community spirit was on full display as the Mauldin Police Department partnered with Greenville County Rec to host this year’s Polar Plunge at 7th Inning Splash Waterpark.

Held February 21, the event brought together families, first responders, local leaders and plenty of brave “plungers” willing to jump into icy water — all for a powerful cause. The fundraiser supports Special Olympics South Carolina, helping provide year-round sports training, competition and life-changing opportunities for athletes across the state.

Participants raised funds leading up to the event, with many forming teams and encouraging donations from friends, coworkers and neighbors. For those not quite ready to brave the cold water, a “virtual plunge” option allowed supporters to contribute without taking the dive.

The Polar Plunge is part of the statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run, a campaign that unites law enforcement agencies in support of Special Olympics athletes. One hundred percent of funds raised go directly toward programming that promotes inclusion, leadership and healthy competition.

Beyond the splash itself, the event had the feel of a winter celebration — music playing, participants in creative costumes, and plenty of cheering from the sidelines. Officers, community members and Rec staff stood shoulder-to-shoulder, reinforcing what makes the Golden Strip special: a willingness to show up for one another.

For Mauldin and the greater Golden Strip community, the Polar Plunge is more than a chilly tradition. It’s a reminder that even in the coldest moments, generosity and community spirit run warm.
