MUSC’s Tonya Turner named S.C. Young Dietician of the Year

CHARLESTON, SC – June 1, 2011 – Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Tonya Turner (pictured far right) has been recognized as the 2011 South Carolina Young Dietician of the Year by the South Carolina Dietetic Association.  Turner is certified in adult weight management and is currently the head dietitian at MUSC’s Weight Management Center.

“I’m honored to have won this award considering there are so many truly outstanding dietitians throughout the state of South Carolina,” said Turner about the award given annually to a recipient that’s younger then 35 years of age and demonstrates leadership qualities and performance in dietetics.

Turner has worked in the areas of adult weight management, bariatric surgery, eating disorders, and sports nutrition for more than 10 years.  She is a member and has held numerous offices for the Charleston Trident Dietetic Association. Turner also earned the 2007 Emerging Dietetic Leader for the Charleston Trident Dietetic Association and the South Carolina Dietetic Association.
 
Turner earned a bachelor’s of science degree from Purdue University in the field of dietetics. She’s currently working towards a master’s degree in Public Health from Walden University.
