PC Names New Provost

November 20, 2012

Dr. Donald R. Raber II has been named Presbyterian College’s third provost, effective in January 2013. Dr. Raber has served PC as Associate Professor of Political Science and most recently as Dean of Academic Programs.

It is a privilege to serve Presbyterian College in this position, Raber said. I am eager to work with Dr. Lilly, the Board of Trustees, administration, and staff so that PC will continue to deliver on its important mission to prepare students for a lifetime of fulfillment and contribution to society.

Raber, who joined the Presbyterian College faculty in 2002, specialized in American politics, teaching courses on public administration, Congress, political parties, and public policy. He earned his B.A. in political science from Furman University, graduating summa cum laude and receiving membership in Phi Beta Kappa. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University, where he studied the managerial presidency and the federal bureaucracy.

As chair of the Department of Political Science from 2008 until earlier this year, Raber supervised a growing major and brought new faculty to campus that changed the department’s curriculum. He also mentored students on honors research and senior capstone papers. Outside the department, Raber served on or chaired multiple campus committees and task forces. He was president of the South Carolina Political Science Association from 2007-2008 and editor of its Journal of Political Science from 2008-2012. While Dean of Academic Programs, he helped coordinate accreditation efforts, student success initiatives, academic advising, freshman seminars, the transition to an online bookstore, and the summer school program.

I am especially excited to pursue different initiatives with our outstanding faculty and students-both in the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Pharmacy-so that PC continues to reflect its motto of While We Live, We Serve, Raber said about his new role as provost.
