Play-based chess program for kids ages 2.5–7 launches in Greenville

June 3, 2025

Musical Chess, a joyful new program for children ages 2.5–7, is launching in Greenville with an imaginative blend of chess, music, and play. Designed to nurture
confidence, focus, and problem-solving skills, the program offers a developmentally rich approach to learning that’s anything but traditional.

Created by educator and theatre artist Adrienne Tellier, Musical Chess introduces the fundamentals of chess through playful lyrics, hands-on activities, and engaging challenges. The curriculum is designed with early learners in mind and has been endorsed by pediatric occupational therapist Alexis Davis, MS OTR/L for its support of executive function, emotional regulation, and physical engagement.

Musical Chess is now offering a select summer schedule, open now for enrollment on their website. A full program launch will follow this fall with a wider range of options:

Musical Chess Will Offer:

  • Acts: Multi-week progressive courses teaching piece mechanics, gameplay, and early strategy
  • Solo Acts: One-time classes focused on a specific piece or concept—ideal for first-timers or flexible schedules
  • Musical Chess Jams: Open-format sessions with games, review, and live play—great for practice or young players eager for challenge
  • Private Lessons & Small Groups: Personalized sessions held in-home or at a local space, tailored to your child’s pace and interests
  • School Partnerships: In-school and after-school programs that support early learning goals through music, movement, and strategy

All offerings are grounded in Musical Chess’s signature blend of play-based learning and meaningful skill-building. The program is intentionally designed for real-world attention spans and learning styles—no chess or music experience required.
