Presbyterian College ROTC Staff Member Receives U.S. Army Cadet Command HRA of the Year Award

CLINTON, SC – May 22, 2012 – Cathy Whitman, human resource assistantfor Presbyterian College Army ROTC program, has received the distinctionof Army Cadet Command HRA of the Year for the Brigade.

Whitman has served in her role as HRA for the ROTC program at Presbyterian College (PC) for 27 years.

“Her commitment to the program and the cadets is extraordinary,” saidLt. Col. Shane Baker, professor of military science.  “Cathy takes thetime to meet with each cadet to review paperwork and make sure theyunderstand their obligations and benefits.”

In her role as the HRA, Whitman has processed packets for more than 300commissionees, 600 LDAC attendees and 3,800 enrolled cadets. Whitman hasalso trained and served with nine professors of military science.

The Fourth Brigade Army ROTC includes 38 schools in South Carolina,North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. Whitman receivedthe award at the Fourth Brigade HRA Conference in April, held at Ft.Bragg, N.C.

Whitman’s service to the program extends beyond PC.

“With her wealth of experience and knowledge, Cathy has become aresource to HRAs throughout the brigade,” said Baker.  “This year sheworked on a brigade wide project that resulted in the development of atemplate which will be used by HRAs to help them do their job moreefficiently.”

Whitman’s commitment to the cadets is evidenced by the personal visits she receives from officers returning to the school.

“When they stop by our office while visiting on campus the first person they want to see is Cathy,” said Baker.
