Provost Academy South Carolina Reaches 1,000 Student Milestone
July 28, 2009Enrollment Increased to Include Openings for 500 More Students to Sign Up for State’s New Online Public High School
COLUMBIA, SC – July 28, 2009 – With six weeks to go before classes begin, an overwhelming demand in Provost Academy South Carolina has enabled the state’s newest free online public high school to reach its initial enrollment limit of 1,000 students. Because of the significant interest, Provost Academy has announced that it has expanded its capacity and now has openings for 500 more students.
When parents are provided a quality choice for their children’s education, they choose the school best suited for their child to achieve academic success and prepare for the future, said Dr. Darrell Johnson, Executive Director of Provost Academy. It is clear from the positive response we have seen in enrollment that the online education we offer is a choice for which many parents and students are looking.
Provost Academy South Carolina is a new state-authorized public online school that is free of charge to residents of South Carolina and offers high school students the public school choice of an engaging, adaptable and quality online learning experience. Students work toward their regular public high school diploma, recognized by colleges and employers, as they would in a traditional school, but in the convenient, safe environment of their own home through computer-based educational programs.
Every student of Provost Academy is provided a free computer, a printer/scanner and an Internet stipend so that they can stay connected and in touch with teachers and counselors who are fully dedicated to their success.
Lindsey Hickman, who will enter Provost Academy as a junior, says she is excited about attending school online. I really like technology, and it will be a lot easier to do things with a computer than to have to hand write everything, and it gives me a little more of a free schedule.
Dr. Johnson believes that, Students need and deserve the choice that best matches their learning style, and online learning offers a richer experience, personalized curriculum and a greater variety of coursework than students might find in a traditional classroom.
Having already reached our original capacity, we sought and received approval from the state charter school board to expand so more students can have a choice in their education, Dr. Johnson said, and I would encourage other parents and students who are interested in attending Provost Academy to contact us so we can begin their enrollment process prior to school starting on August 31.
