RB Todd Consulting Engineers, Inc. Designs Midlands’ First Miracle League Baseball Field

April 28, 2008

IRMO, SC – April 28, 2008 – RB Todd Consulting Engineers, Inc. has designed the Columbia area’s first Miracle League field, planned so physically and mentally disabled children can experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime.

The first game was played this month at the Pineview Baseball Complex at 1300 Methodist Park Road in West Columbia, owned by the Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission.

“The field is designed to certain specifications, including a rubberized surface suitable for wheelchairs and a completely accessible field encompassing dugouts and bathrooms,” says Bruce Todd, P.E., LEED AP of RB Todd Consulting Engineers, Inc., who designed and oversaw construction of the Miracle League field. “The Miracle League removes the barriers that keep children with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field, and RB Todd Consulting Engineers is happy to be a part of such a groundbreaking project for the Midlands area.”

“The Miracle League field was paid for by an anonymous donation from a Columbia businessman who wants a place for all kids to play,” says Randy Gibson, deputy director of the Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about 4 million children in our country have a disability.
