Regimental Band and Pipes to present “A Concert for the Community”

CHARLESTON, SC – April 20, 2010 – The Citadel Regimental Band andPipes 2010 spring show for the greater Charleston community will giveconcert goers a taste of what the world will hear this summer inEdinburgh, Scotland.

The band and pipeswill be the only U.S. band attending the Aug. 6-28 Diamond Jubilee ofthe Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a month-long nightly festival ofmusic, pageantry and demonstrations by military organizations fromaround the world. This is the second time The Citadel has received aprestigious invitation to the international festival, the largest of its kind in the world.

“A Concert for the Community” begins at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 20 inMcAlister Field House. It is free and open to the public.
Known primarily for military honors and marches, this year theRegimental Band will perform traditional concert band music as wellpatriotic music.  The 2010 concert also will feature an extendedperformance of traditional Scottish music by the Regimental Pipe Band. 

The concert is dedicated to band supporters over the years and those who have helped make the trip to Scotland possible. While a free show,donations are welcome and will help defray the costs of the trip.

Mike Alverson, USN(Ret), director of music. “What an honor to receive a second invitationto the Edinburgh Tattoo to represent our school and our country.  Wewill perform live in front of more than 217,000 people and be seenworldwide on BBC television by more than 100 million people and we can’t wait to make you all proud.”

The Citadel
