USC Upstate signed a special agreement with the Rose Theatre in Kingston Upon Thames, London, England, earlier this year that affords USC Upstate students the opportunity to intern at the Rose Theatre in Kingston. That theatre is based on the Rose Theatre in London, an Elizabethan theatre that staged the plays of Christopher Marlowe and early plays of Shakespeare.
As part of that agreement, the theatre’s artistic director, Stephen Unwin, agreed to come to USC Upstate to conduct acting workshops for theatre students. All workshops are open to the public except for the Master Class on November 2. Unwin has an extensive theatre background. In the 1980s he was associate director atthe Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh. In the 1990s, he served as resident director at the NationalTheatre Studio and he founded English Touring Theatre. Unwin has also directed a dozen operas and written numerous books.Contact Jimm Cox, professor of theatre, at [email protected] or (864) 503-5697, for additional information.
