SC State’s Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity host 2nd Run for the Dream 5k

ORANGEBURG, SC- April 9, 2009 – The Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will host the 2nd Run for the Dream 5k Run and Community Health Festival. The event will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 8 a.m. at the K.W Green Student Center on the campus of SC State.

I believe this Race represents a movement of young people who recognize and accept the challenge of the fierce urgency of now, said Aaron Haire, race director.  It is an urgency that calls for positive change and enriching contributions to our University, our community, and the world, he continued.

The race was named in honor of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and created to remind people of the greatness that can be achieved in humanity when people come together in love and unity.

The Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. continues to educate the community in the area of health and wellness and expand fundraising efforts in order to make benevolent contributions to community programs and undergraduate scholarships at SC State.

The event will include radio broadcast, refreshments, and a community health fair. Prizes and give a ways will be awarded to top finishing runners according to various age categories. A monetary award will be given to the Greek fraternity or sorority chapter with the highest number of registered and identifiable participants.

One step at a time, one year at time, one race at a time, it is our goal to be the catalyst of positive change for humanity and leave a legacy which embodies true brother and sisterhood; all of which were visions Dr. King dedicated his life to, Haire said.
