SC Campaign Selects Rep. James Smith as Legislator of the Year

COLUMBIA, SC – May 22, 2013 – The South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (SC Campaign) has selected the Honorable James Smith as its 2013 Legislator of the Year.
Each year, the SC Campaign recognizes a member of the General Assembly for their support of teen pregnancy prevention efforts across the state. Representative Smith was presented the award on the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (May 1, 2013). The SC Campaign’s CEO Forrest Alton made the announcement amid friends and colleagues of Smiths at the 3rd Annual Young Professionals Wine and Oyster Night event.
Representative Smith has always been a champion for providing quality health education to South Carolina’s young people, stated Alton. The work he has done in our state legislature will impact our state for years to come.
Rep. James Smith was first elected to the General Assembly in 1997. He is an attorney; business leader; father of four children and a First Lieutenant, Judge Advocate General, in the United States Army Reserve. In the South Carolina House of Representatives, Smith serves as a subcommittee Chairman on the Judiciary Committee.
