SCRA’s Advanced Technology Institute to Manage U.S. Department of Defense Ordnance Technology Consortium
March 2, 2009CHARLESTON, SC – March 1, 2009 — The Advanced Technology Institute, an SCRA affiliate, announces today that it has been selected by the National Warheads and Energetics Consortium (NWEC) to act as their Consortium Management Firm. In this capacity, ATI will assist NWEC and its government partner, the DoD Ordnance Technology Consortium (DOTC), in the planning and execution of a multi-project, seven (7) year, $700 million munitions technology development, and prototype demonstration program under contract with the U.S. Army Contracting Command Joint Munitions and Lethality Contracting Center Emerging Technologies Center.
DOTC is an integrated enterprise of government, industry, and academia participants established by the Office of the Secretary of Defense to serve as the focal point for ordnance system technology research and development to address the Department of Defense’s long range science and technology objectives. NWEC is the industrial/academic component of DOTC. It is a consortium of more than 120 companies and academic institutions brought together to enhance warfighter lethality and survivability. The group will accomplish its goals by leveraging the nation’s industrial and academia research and development bases to advance and expand U.S. military technological superiority in critical fields of warheads, fuzes, explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics, munitions demilitarization, insensitive munitions and enabling technologies.
