South Carolina Student Elected National Officer of Youth Leadership Organization

September 9, 2009

NASHVILLE, TN & SPARTANBURG, SC – September 9, 2009 – Trenton Brock, a senior at Chapman High School in Inman, has been elected the 2009-10 National First Vice President of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). The Spartanburg School District One student is one of ten national officers elected during the organization’s 2009 National Leadership Conference held this summer in Nashville.

Being elected a national officer is the highest leadership honor an FCCLA member can achieve. Brock’s selection took place during a five-day leadership event centered on the student developed theme, “Beyond the Label.” More than 5,500 FCCLA members, advisers, alumni and guests attended workshops and sessions on relevant youth issues such as career preparation, youth violence prevention, family relations, traffic safety, community service and the changing roles of men and women in the home and workplace.

We are so proud of Trent,” said Eleanor Glover, an education associate in the Department’s Office of Career and Technology Education.  “He’s an outstanding young man and will do an excellent job representing South Carolina. We are grateful to Trent’s parents, adviser and others who were instrumental in the development of his leadership qualities and opened the door of opportunity for him to assume this national position.

Along with nine other members of the national executive council, Brock will travel to FCCLA headquarters in Reston, Va., during the school year to attend training and program planning sessions. He will also help set policies and develop future goals for the organization as a committee member of the FCCLA National Board of Directors. He and the other national officers will represent the organization by leading workshops and giving speeches locally and throughout the country.

During this year as FCCLA First Vice President, Brock will also help plan the focus and content of FCCLA’s 2010 National Leadership Conference to be held July 4-8 in Chicago.

He is the son of Jay and Candy Brock of Inman.  Brenda Rogers is his FCCLA chapter adviser.
