Spartanburg Community Indicators Project Announces Director

SPARTANBURG, SC – September 18, 2013 – The Spartanburg Community Indicators Project is pleased to announce that Becky Slayton has been hired as Project Director. In this role, Slayton will identify and engage agencies to lead on one or more of the indicator areas identified by the Spartanburg Community Indicators Project; develop the project as the source of information about the community and the vehicle to connect to opportunities that promote civic prosperity; refine project methodology to maximize community engagement for indicators selection, data collection, trends analysis, and report distribution; and expand the infrastructure of the Spartanburg Community Indicators Project to accomplish its vision.

Prior to joining the Spartanburg Community Indicators Project, Slayton led the Spartanburg County Historical Association (SCHA) as Executive Director. In this role, she provided leadership to the organization, raised awareness of the SCHA, secured sponsorships and leveraged grant funds to implement projects.  Additionally, Slayton established the Spartanburg History Hub which consists of over 450 individuals and groups which network, share information and partner on mutually beneficial projects.

Slayton is a graduate of Tennessee Technological University, earning a Bachelor of Science in history and Master of Business Administration.  She has lived in Spartanburg County for over 15 years, and is involved in numerous community organizations including Leadership Spartanburg Alumni Association.
