Spring social skills groups and job training at The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment

Registration is open now for the spring semester of social skills groups and job training at The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment. The spring semester includes weekly in-person sessions at The Unumb Center, 1505 Blanding Street, Columbia SC 29201. Sessions begin the week of January 24th and end the week of May 5th.

Social skills groups are open to children and adolescents between 4-21 years of age with social skills deficits, regardless of diagnosis. Topics include communication skills, making and keeping friends, avoiding bullying, sportsmanship, following rules, problem-solving, flexible thinking, planning and organization, controlling impulses, and managing anxiety.

Job training, also known as pre-employment transition services, is available to South Carolina residents between 13-21 years of age that have a documented diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. Job training is a skill acquisition service in the areas of job-exploration counseling, work-based learning, instruction in self-advocacy, and workplace readiness training. Work-based learning features workplace simulation as a t-shirt printer at The Unumb Center Print Shop, located inside The Unumb Center.

Prospective job training participants should complete the registration form and a member of The Unumb Center team will reach out to schedule an assessment.
