The Original Six Foundation names Kara Gormley Meador Executive Director
June 27, 2022The Original Six Foundation (06) announced that communications professional and former journalist, Kara Gormley Meador will serve as executive director.
Gormley Meador has more than 25 years of communications experience. The former journalist and broadcast television anchor most recently served as director of media and content strategy at NP Strategy where she provided communications and marketing assistance to global, regional and local businesses, nonprofits, and foundations.
“South Carolina’s children deserve our support regardless of where they are born and raised,” said Ambassador Nikki Haley, founder and chair of the 06 Foundation. “The Original Six is fortunate to have Kara join our team. She is the right leader to tell our story and grow our mission. We look forward to expanding our presence and lifting up more students across our great state,” Haley said.
“It’s an opportunity of a lifetime to be able to use my skills to advance the mission of a foundation that invests in teachers and is seeing students in our state improve their reading skills, their study habits, and in turn their grades,” Gormley Meador said. “This organization is changing lives.”
Gormley Meador is stepping into the role after former executive director, Nikki Hood, announced she was leaving the position to devote more time to her young family.
Since 2016, the 06 team has partnered with South Carolina Schools and certified teachers to provide homework assistance and literacy programs to over 17,000 students. The 06 Afterschool program provides students with hands-on, individual support from teachers and volunteers in order to achieve their academic goals. The 06 First Library program increases access to appropriate grade-level books for 5K students to help build their at-home library while fostering an enthusiasm for reading.
