COLUMBIA, SC – November 9, 2010 – The recognition stems from the organizations’ cooperation to provide daily meal service for the homeless. The presentation will be made at a 6 p.m. event hosted by Light the Way that brings together representatives from Midlands area houses worship who advocate for the homeless. The banquet will be held at Brookland Banquet and Conference Center located at Brookland Baptist Church on Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia.

The interfaith event also will include remarks and prayers from a cross-section of Columbia faith leaders, including the Rev. Mary Anderson, Light the Way chair and pastor of Incarnation Lutheran Church; Rev. Amos Disasa, past Light the Way chair and organizing pastor of the Downtown Presbyterian New Church Development; the Rev. Dr. Herman Yoos, Bishop, South Carolina Lutheran Synod; Dr. Waleed El-Ansary, University of South Carolina Department of Religious Studies; and Rabbi Hesh Epstein, Bet Midrash Congregation. City  Councilwoman Dr. Belinda Gergel will bring greetings from the City of Columbia.

The program will include the performance of “We Can Light the Way”, an original song written by Light the Way volunteer Kiah Creed and performed by Terri Schumpert, as well as the debut of a slide show documenting the plight of the homeless in the Midlands.
