Tree of Life Congregation to Host Columbia's Fourth Annual Jewish Cultural and Food Festival

April 12, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – April 12, 2013 – The Tree of Life Congregation, celebrating one-hundred-and-seventeen years in the Midlands, is pleased to invite the entire community to attend The BIG NOSH™: Columbia’s Fourth Annual Jewish Food and Cultural Festival. The event will take place on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 11am to 4:30pm at the Tree of Life Congregation synagogue located at 6719 North Trenholm Road.

The BIG NOSH™ celebrates “everything Jewish” and honors the rich cultural diversity of Columbia and the local community. Many will agree that there is no finer way to rejoice than through music, dance, shopping, socializing, food and culture. All are welcome to enjoy this fun, family-friendly festival where you can “make challah, bite a knish, blow a shofar and dance the hora.

“On behalf of our entire board and congregation we are all looking forward to the community for the upcoming Big Nosh™ Jewish food and cultural festival. This year marks the fourth annual event and promises to be bigger and better,” says Richard H. Cohn, Sr., President of the Tree of Life Congregation.

The BIG NOSH™ combines a large-scale Jewish food festival with ongoing LIVE entertainment, art, fundraising, education, and games. The festival boasts an appealingly diverse line-up of live and ongoing entertainment scheduled to take place throughout the day across the outdoor Main-Stage and smaller indoor stages. Stage performances will include American-Jewish song classics performed onsite by live bands and musicians

The Big Nosh™ gives our congregation an opportunity to open our doors to the greater community to share our Jewish faith and lives. We will have a chance to show and discuss what it means to be Jewish here in Columbia. Our goal is to promote greater awareness and understanding with our neighbors, as well as to provide some delicious food, says Rabbi Daniel Sherman, Tree of Life Congregation.

In the interest of providing ample parking to all event attendees, a free “park and ride” service will be available to transport guests both to and from The BIG NOSH™ Festival site. Guests can leave their cars in the parking lot at the Comedy House (2768 Decker Boulevard, 29206) to take advantage of the free return shuttle service that will be operating from 10:30am – 5:00pm. Funds raised during The BIG NOSH™ are used to help fulfill the Tree of Life Congregation’s mission to meet the needs of the Reform Jewish Community and to be a good member of the local community. The Tree of Life supports local charities such as Harvest Hope Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Columbia Family Services and the American Red Cross Blood Bank. Harvest Hope Food Bank will be on site accepting donations. Tree of Life is committed to being good stewards of the environment. Previous funds raised from The BIG NOSH™ went to building a rain garden, which received a 2010 Appearance Counts Award from the Richland County Appearance Commission. In 2011 the Tree of Life was the first congregation to receive the green congregation award.

Admission to the BIG NOSH is FREE and EVERYONE is welcome.
