Troutman lawsuit dismissed

July 31, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – July 31, 2011 –  A lawsuit against Clemson University andits board of trustees filed by former employee Gene Troutman has beendismissed.

“Clemson has been able to successfully defeat each claim Mr. Troutman made, both with the trial judge and on appeal, and we’re pleased that this matter has been resolved in Clemson’s favor,” said Tom Bright of the Ogletree Deakins law firm. “Mr. Troutman has dismissed his claims with prejudice, which means they cannot be brought up again at a later date. No money is being paid, and there is no settlement. The case is over.”

Troutman’s claims against the university were dismissed by the federal district court a year ago. His efforts to add parties and new claims were denied in November 2010, and his motion for reconsideration was denied by the court in April. All that remained was an appeal currently before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and a defamation claim against former board Chairman Bill Hendrix. Those have been dismissed. In return, Clemson has dismissed its counterclaims against Troutman.
