We are very fortunate to have an outstanding tradition of strong volunteer leadership at the YMCA of Columbia. I am thankful for the direction Bruce has provided to our organization over the last three years, and enthusiastic to see where Vance’s vision, humanity and love for our cause will take us, said Bryan Madden, CEO of the YMCA of Columbia.

The YMCA impacts the lives of tens of thousands in the Midlands every year and I am honored to serve as chair of this important organization, said Vance Bettis, President of the YMCA of Columbia Board of Directors. I am excited to continue working with the Y as we strengthen our programs and develop new ways to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.

Bettis grew up attending camps and playing church league basketball at the Y in Charleston, and he has been a member of the Downtown YMCA in Columbia for over 30 years. He has served on the Metropolitan Board of Directors at the YMCA of Columbia since 2006.

Along with the change in leadership, the Y also recognized employees and volunteers of the year from all five branches and donors to the annual campaign. It was a joyous celebration of the Y’s belief that lasting change only comes about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.
