April 28, 2011

Upstate Organizations Receive $25,000 from the 2010 Food, Wine, and Music Event

GREENVILLE, SC – April 28, 2011 – The fifth annual Euphoria event, held on September 23rd – 26th, 2010, raised $25,000 for local non-profit organizations. The grant recipients received their funds on Tuesday, April 26th, 2011 at a presentation held at Nantucket Seafood Grill, located in Downtown Greenville, SC.

Funds were provided to begin a new music therapy program  – a joint program to benefit children served by The Meyer’s Center and A Child’s Haven. In addition, grant money will fund Loaves & Fishes, an organization that feeds the hungry in Greenville through food donations and will help in the purchase of kitchen equipment for Generations Group Homes, a treatment facility dedicated to ending sexual abuse.

As an organization, it’s exciting to be able to give back to our community”, said Carl Sobocinski, event co-founder.

“We are always looking for organizations that we can help out where our donations will make a huge difference. The three programs that we’ve selected for 2010 will all be able to fully implement new projects and initiatives thanks to the funds we are providing them.

“All three fit the mission of the board and make a big impact to those they serve –from delivering more the one million pounds of food annually to those not sure where their next meal is coming from, stopping the horrible cycle of sexual abuse to using music therapy to impact children with developmental disabilities,” said Edwin McCain, event co-founder.

“These organizations each reflect the values of Local Boys Do Good and our mission to develop the arts in our community and focus on children’s needs and it’s an honor for us to be able to help them out in some way.

Euphoria seeks to present a first-class, multi-day event for food, wine, and music lovers that raises significant funds for charities while also promoting tourism and enhancing the reputation of Greenville, South Carolina as a premiere culinary and performing arts destination.

While Euphoria exposes local, national, and international visitors to the high quality of music and culinary arts being performed in Greenville, South Carolina, it also exists for charities.  Euphoria is organized and presented by Local Boys Do Good (“LBDG”), a non-profit organization exempt from taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  All net proceeds from Euphoria are distributed by LBDG through direct grants to other charities – mostly in upstate South Carolina – that focus on providing sustenance to those in need (food, hunger, and health), educating (through music, performing arts, or otherwise), or supporting children. Since its inception in 2006, LBDG has received more than 100 grant applications and requests and given more than $100,000 in grant funds.
