10,000 Trees For Charleston Reports Successful Year

December 4, 2014

CHARLESTON, SC – In 2014, 10,000 Trees for Charleston planted 80 new trees in West Ashley along the public right-of-ways. The tree plantings were made possible through donations from local businesses and community members. The most recent planting was 7 Crepe Myrtles along the median of St. Andrews and Old Towne Road.

10,000 Trees for Charleston is also giving away 148 Live Oaks to local residents to plant on their own properties. The trees were generously donated by Charleston Hardwood Trees and the Ravenel Family for Arbor Day, which is Friday, December 5, 2014. Residents interested in adopting a tree can contact 10,000 Trees for Charleston at (843) 579-7501 or email [email protected].

The 10,000 Trees for Charleston initiative was started by Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. in 2012 with a goal of increasing Charleston’s livability, health and beauty by planting trees. The volunteer commission partners with the City of Charleston, Charleston Horticulture Society, Town of James Island, Charleston Hardwood Trees, and many other local companies, agencies, and community members to promote the planting of trees throughout the Charleston area.
