10th Annual Tails & Trails 5K Races Through Conestee Park
May 11, 2026Conestee Park was filled with wagging tails and running shoes this past Saturday, May 9, 2026, as the community gathered for the 10th Annual Tails & Trails 5K. The milestone event, which serves as a major fundraiser for Greenville County Animal Care, brought together hundreds of local runners, walkers, and their four-legged companions.
The event kicked off at 8:30 a.m. at the park located on Mauldin Road. Participants had the option to compete in a timed 5K run or join a more relaxed fun-run and walk along the scenic trails of the preserve.
A Decade of Support for Animal Care
As a landmark anniversary for the race, this year’s “Tails & Trails” highlighted a decade of community partnership. Proceeds from the event go directly toward supporting the medical needs and daily care of animals at the Greenville County shelter, a facility dedicated to “no-kill” practices and high adoption rates.
Beyond the race itself, the park grounds were transformed into a vibrant “vendor village.” Highlights of the day included:
-
Local Vendors: Dozens of pet-focused businesses and artisans showcasing local products.
-
Onsite Entertainment: Live music and interactive activities for families and pets.
-
Merchandise and Food: Event-specific gear and a selection of food trucks providing post-race refreshments.
Community Impact
The event is designed to be inclusive, encouraging pet owners to bring their furry friends along for the exercise. By hosting the race at Conestee Park, organizers provided a natural environment where dogs could enjoy the outing alongside their owners, emphasizing the bond between the Upstate’s residents and their pets.
“Throw on your tennis shoes and grab the leash” was the call to action that resonated with attendees from across the region, including many from the nearby Simpsonville and Mauldin areas.
As the race concluded, participants were encouraged to stay and enjoy the festival atmosphere, celebrating another successful year of advocacy for animal welfare.
