14th annual Blythewood Spring Championship Rodeo happening this weekend

April 17, 2024

Experience Columbia SC Sports is happy to once again work with the Blythewood Spring Championship Rodeo presented by Scout Motors. Now in its 14th year, the event takes place at 10433 Wilson Boulevard in Blythewood from April 19 – 20. Gates open at 5:30 each night with the rodeo beginning at 7:30 p.m.

This wholesome, patriotic family event draws thousands of attendees annually to what has become one of the most competitive rodeo venues in the Southeast. The Blythewood Rodeo Committee, the Town of Blythewood, event sponsors and competitors are all proud of the community growth and development the rodeo spurs through donations to youth groups and charities.

Blythewood is a premier stop on the International Professional Rodeo Association schedule. Affectionately known as the “Greatest Show on Dirt,” the rodeo features top-ranked professional cowboys and cowgirls competing in eight rough stock and timed events, including bull riding, barrel racing, cowgirl breakaway roping, tie down roping, saddle broncs, bareback broncs, team roping and steer wrestling, in an attempt to qualify for the IFR Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City.

Miss Rodeo USA 2024 Kaelanne Quinonez and rodeo entertainer Mr. Jake Gray will be traveling in to be part of the weekend’s festivities, and the Ken Treadway Rodeo Company will be onsite to showcase award-winning livestock athleteslike Desperado, the 2022 Bucking Bronc of the Year and Storm Trooper, the Bucking Bull of the Year.

Experience Columbia SC Sports is one of the sponsors for this year’s event. “The Blythewood Rodeo is so proud to work with ECSC Sports year in and year out,” said Kristi Coggins, Town of Blythewood employee and director of Doko Manor, events and Doko Meadows Park. “Their reach and professionalism is unsurpassed.”

“We’re excited to welcome the Spring Blythewood Rodeo to our community for its 14th year,” said Anna Gasperecz, sports development manager for ECSC Sports. “Kristi has been great to work with throughout the years and she is an incredible asset to the Columbia region. When not attending the rodeo, we encourage those coming in for the event to explore all our area has to offer by way of food, culture and outdoor adventure.”

Attendees can also enjoy food offerings, pony rides, inflatables and a boot race for the chance to win a pair of Ariat cowboy boots or jeans. To purchase tickets or learn more about the event, please visit www.blythewoodrodeo.com.
