1×1 Design awarded AIA South Carolina Design Awards

April 18, 2016

1×1 Design announces that three projects have received recognition by The South Carolina chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIASC).

The Phase Two Renovations at The Nickelodeon Theatre in Columbia, South Carolina, received a Merit Award for Adaptive Reuse/Renovation.  The renovations transformed the second floor vacant theatre into a theater with all the modern technology associated with a movie-going experience today, but with a nod to the grand theater experience of the early 1900’s.  Additional office space, accessibility improvements and concession renovations were also part of the project.

The renovations at 4326 Fort Jackson Boulevard for simplesurance received a Citation Award for Adaptive Reuse/Renovation.  The project, consisting of only 1690 square feet, completely transformed a vacant 1960’s building into a fresh, yet simple, retail experience.

Finally, the interior renovations of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church were recognized as a finalist for the Interior Architecture Awards.  The complete interior renovation of this historic church in downtown Columbia, included plaster repair, refurbishment of heart pine floors, restoration of original stained glass windows, and the custom application of a Venetian Plaster at the chancel.
