200lbs collected during drug take back event

October 28, 2019

Bon Secours St. Francis Health System’s annual Medication Take Back Day event was a success! 139 vehicles drove by to drop of their old, unused and expired medications at St. Francis Millennium on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. During those four hours, volunteers collected 191 pounds of medication and another nine pounds of controlled substances. This event is held in conjunction with National Drug Take Back Day each year to encourage Americans to clean out their medicine cabinets! Millions misuse controlled prescription drugs, many of which are obtained from the homes of family and friends. Events like the one Saturday allow pills to be properly disposed of so they don’t end up in the wrong hands or contaminate the soil and water systems.
