2012 First Day Festival Call For Volunteers

July 16, 2012

CHARLESTON, SC – July 12, 2012 – The City of Charleston Mayor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families (MOCYF) is hosting the annual First Day Festival on Sunday, August 19, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Liberty Square at the SC Aquarium and the Charleston Maritime Center. Thousands of students attend the festival every August to celebrate education. The success of the event owes a great debt to the many volunteers who pitch in to help make it happen. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities and different times when help is needed.

On August 19, volunteers will help with festival and exhibitor set-up, school supplies distribution, work the water and recycle stations, assist with the kid’s zone, boat rides, parking and traffic, or serve as festival greeters and line facilitators. There are two shifts (8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. or both!). Volunteers are also needed Saturday August 18 and one week prior to the festival (August 13 – 17).

Visit the MOCYF website: www.charleston-sc.gov/mocyf to register or pick up a hard copy at MOCYF at 50 Broad Street to mail or fax. The registration deadline is Wednesday, August 8th, 2012.
