2016-2017 Lancaster Performing Arts Series line-up

May 24, 2016

LANCASTER, SC – Lancaster Performing Arts Series announces the 2016-2017 Season line-up, promising something for everyone!  From down-home country and uptown R&B to classic rock and cutting-edge comedy, concert-goers will not want to miss a single performance.

Leading off the impressive list of performers is Shooter Jennings and Waymore’s Outlaws, scheduled for September 17th.   Known for following in his father’s footsteps, but with his own feisty, scrappy sense of country, Shooter is the only son of legendary Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter.  Waymore’s Outlaws backed Waylon Jennings both live and in the studio, and while the younger Jennings has carried on his father’s tradition of releasing a series of genre-defying albums, the collaboration of the two treats audiences to an evening honoring Waylon Jennings and his music.

Next in the line-up, on November 4, is Del McCoury Band who, for more than fifty years, has defined authenticity for hard core bluegrass fans as well as a growing number of fans only vaguely familiar with the genre.

KANSAS, a rock band that has spent more than four decades as soundtrack in the lives of multiple generations of music lovers, will take the stage on December 2. The band has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums, one platinum live album, and two one million-selling gold singles.

Audiences are in for a bit of a surprise on January 20, with self-described “asian with a southern accent” comedian Henry Cho.  With a “clean” brand of comedy, Cho’s list of television and film appearances is extensive.

Everybody’s “N.C. Sweetheart”, Kellie Pickler is up next, joining the line-up on Februay 11th, just in time for a Valentine date night.  Pickler is everything that’s right about that uniquely modern place where reality and celebrity come together.  She is first and foremost a force of nature, a young woman who followed a restless small-town dream to the heart to the front porch of the country music world.  Kellie’s first two albums quickly established her as both a singer and a songwriter to be reckoned with and each showed growth not only as an artist but also as a woman.

On March 11, Lancaster Performing Arts Series welcomes the Manhattans, a popular American R&B vocal group. Their work includes million-selling songs, with twelve Top 10 R&B hits in the United States – appearing on the Billboard chart for the first time in 1965. Lead singer, Gerald Alston is the only living member of the group’s heyday lineup and helped the group remain a fixture on the  R&B top ten as lead on songs like “Kiss And Say Goodbye,” “There’s No Me Without You”, and “Shining Star”.

Through a unique partnership with USC Lancaster, all concerts are held at state-of-the-art Bundy Auditorium, an intimate 400-seat venue located 476 Hubbard Drive, Lancaster, SC 29720.  Sponsorships for Lancaster Performing Arts, a City of Lancaster production, are available and season tickets are now on sale, providing seating preference and pre-show VIP Room access to heavy hors d’oevres and beverages.  General admission tickets to the 2016-2017 Performing Arts Series will go on sale beginning August 8.

In addition to the Performing Arts Series 2016-2017 exemplary list of performances, a secondary performance series, “See Lancaster Live”,  offers economically-priced entertainment for all ages.  Offerings include live theatre, jazz performances, children’s and dinner theatre, and more.  For information or to purchase tickets, visit www.lancastercitysc.com.  Contact April Joplin, Performing Arts Manager at 803-289-1494 or [email protected].
