2016 Workforce Development Salute honors major supporters

Honorees Recognized For Gifts Totaling More than $1 Million to Greenville Tech Foundation

Greenville Tech Foundation hosted the 2016 Workforce Development Salute and honored local leaders for their significant support of Greenville Technical College. The 2016 honorees were John I. Smith Charities, former Simpsonville mayor Ralph Hendricks and T&S Brass and Bronze Works Inc. Together, these honorees have funded more than 500 individual scholarships and contributed more than $1 million to Greenville Tech.

“Each honoree has made an immeasurable impact on Greenville Tech and the lives of our students,” said Bob Howard, President of the Greenville Tech Foundation. “We are fortunate to have them in our community and as our partners. With their support, hundreds of students have been able to achieve their goals and continue on a path to success.”

John I. Smith Charities has generously supported Greenville Technical College for more than 20 years in ways that have enhanced opportunities, facilities and equipment for students of the College. They have funded scholarships, building projects, study abroad opportunities and the purchase of land adjacent to the Benson campus. Recently, they helped equip the Center for Manufacturing Innovation.

Ralph Hendricks has devoted his life to serving the Simpsonville area as a business owner, philanthropist and civic leader. He has given generously to support the education of students from the Simpsonville area. This includes creation of and continued support for the largest endowed scholarship fund for Greenville Technical College, which has helped 273 students to date. Mr. Hendricks is a member of the Greenville Tech Foundation Entrepreneur’s Forum and an Emeritus Member of the Greenville Tech Foundation Board.

T&S Brass and Bronze Works, Inc. has remained a steadfast supporter of Greenville Technical College through several years of business growth. Their generous contributions have supported a variety of efforts, including an endowment that provides a scholarship to one student from every public high school in Greenville County each year. They have generously donated equipment to important Greenville Technical College projects, such as the Northwest Campus and the Center for Manufacturing Innovation. In addition, several members of the family have donated their time and energy as members of the board of Greenville Tech Foundation.

The Greenville Tech Foundation supports the efforts of Greenville Technical College to build programs to train and educate the labor force of the Upstate. The Foundation hosts this event annually to celebrate the contributions of the community to help the College educate the local workforce.
