2017 One Book, One Community

After hundreds engaged in social justice discussions at Richland Library this fall, we are excited to announce Grant Park by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Leonard Pitts, Junior as this year’s One Book, One Community selection.
The emotionally-charged novel takes a provocative look at black and white relations in contemporary America, blending the absurd and the poignant in a powerfully well-crafted narrative.
In a review of Grant Park, the New York Times relays, “. . . these ideas [are] perennially salient, and doubly so today, given a growing litany of American sorrows, from Ferguson to Charleston and beyond. . . . lays bare the extent to which Americans, black and white, still struggle to articulate the basic elements of our shared past.”

Whether it’s grabbing a copy, joining a book group or attending a community event, Richland Library is inviting local residents to take part in One Book, One Community – an initiative that encourages everyone to read the same book at the same time.
