2021 “GroundBreakers” honored for positively impacting the Carolinas construction industry

GroundBreak Carolinas has announced the results of its 2021 GroundBreaker Awards, an annual awards program that recognizes individuals who have gone above and beyond to make a difference for the construction community in the Carolinas. GroundBreak Carolinas is an organization that focuses on connecting design, construction, economic development, and commercial real estate communities.

Selected from a well-rounded group of nominees from North Carolina and South Carolina, the 2021 Class of GroundBreakers represents both states and includes three women and two men.

This year’s award GroundBreaker Award recipients include:

Nichole Kopenhaver (pictured), Assistant Project Manager with McCrory Construction, South Carolina’s oldest general contractor with offices in Columbia and Greenville. Kopenhaver is the Immediate Past President of National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Chapter #113 in Columbia.

Demi Knight Clark, Founder of She Built This City, a Charlotte-based non-profit focused on introducing women and young girls from diverse backgrounds to the skilled trades.

Marcus Rabun, CEO of Charlotte-headquartered Myers & Chapman, a full-service commercial construction company, and Founder of the Charlotte Commercial Construction Coalition (4C).

Sam Young, Owner and President/CEO of Young & McQueen Grading Company, Inc., a premier site development and heavy highway contractor based in the mountains of Western North Carolina in Burnsville.

Pat Rodgers, President & CEO of Rodgers Builders, a leading construction services firm headquartered in Charlotte with a regional office in Greenville, S.C., has been singled out with the Lifetime GroundBreaker Award.
