Event to Benefit Bon Secours St. Francis’ Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health

Save the date for the 2022 Bourbon for Boobs event, a night of food, music, and bourbon tastings – all in the name of a good cause. Tickets went on sale at 6 a.m. this morning, marking exactly 8 years since the passing of Sammie Sweeney-Ferrigan. She fought stage 4 breast cancer for six years before succumbing to the illness, and now her daughter, Melissa Morrell, hosts this annual event in her honor.

“She is the reason I’m doing this. In some form or fashion, I have been involved in breast cancer awareness and support since my mother was diagnosed in 2008. It took on new life upon her death because it was even more important for me to continue to honor her fight and her legacy,” said Melissa Morrell, founder and organizer of the Bourbon for Boobs event. “I pray the cure is found in my lifetime. In the meantime, if I can help raise awareness and funds to help those I know and those I will never meet in my community, I am humbled to do that. That’s the reason I keep going.”

The 3rd annual event will take place Thursday, October 20th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Revel Event Center on Stone Avenue in downtown Greenville. This year’s fundraising goal is $60,000.

“Events like this give us an opportunity to come together and life up those who have been touched by cancer while also raising funds and awareness to help combat this horrible disease by ensuring women have easy access to the best care available in our community,” said Erik Whaley, president of the St. Francis Foundation. “We are humbled by Melissa’s desire to make us stronger for all we are so blessed to serve.”

Revel, along with Society Sandwich Bar and Social Club, Makers Mark, and Trey Francis and his band will all be donating their services for the event to ensure 100% of the money raised will benefit the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health. The event will also showcase a silent and live auction with involvement from Upstate retailers, restaurants, and businesses.

“The community involvement and passion for this event has left me speechless. The vast majority never knew my mother, but everybody’s affected by breast cancer in one way or the other, so it’s been really incredible to see these wonderful friends, local businesses, and vendors of mine step up to help,” said Morrell. “It’s been an organic event that has evolved into something that I know my mother would be proud of.”

The money will be used to help underserved women access the screening and diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, and breast MRIs they need.

“Bon Secours remains committed to providing outstanding breast health care to uninsured and underinsured women in our community.  Our mission of being ‘Good Help’ to those we serve continues to be at the very heart of what we do, and with the support of Bourbon for Boobs we can provide the best breast care to those who need it most,” said Dana Hagy, the Director of Women’s Imaging and Diagnostic for Bon Secours St. Francis Health System.

The Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health is in Suite 220 of Building 131 on the Bon Secours St. Francis Eastside campus. It brings the most advanced breast imaging technology available together in one place with an expert staff that offers compassionate, convenient care and rapid results.

In addition to the exams offered at the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health, the Bon Secours St. Francis mobile mammography coach offers screening mammograms throughout the community.  The mobile increases access to care by removing transportation barriers for women in Greenville, Anderson, Pickens, and Oconee Counties. It’s on the road 5-6 days a week, offering the latest 3D tomosynthesis technology.
