42nd Street at Town Theatre

September 4, 2021

Come and meet those dancing feet! It’s time for some toe-tapping as Town Theatre presents the paramount show-business musical, 42nd Street! Audiences will be drawn to the “Lullaby of Broadway” as we celebrate the magic of 1930s New York and the thrill of musical theatre. You’ll be “In the Money” as we “Shuffle Off to Buffalo” to see this TAP-tastic production!

Aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer finds that dreams come true when she makes the ensemble of a new Broadway show, Pretty Lady. But when the show’s leading lady breaks her ankle before opening night, Peggy faces her chance at stardom. Our ingénue-turned-star is Grace Sawicki (Into the Woods Jr., Willy Wonka) who comes toe-to-toe with Ashley Hayes (Hairspray), as Broadway diva Dorothy Brock. Working behind the scenes to get their show to opening are Pretty Lady’s co-authors Rebecca Goodrich Seezen (Les Mis, Mamma Mia) and Rob Sprankle (South Pacific, The King and I) in the roles of Maggie Jones and Bert Berry. Roxanne Livingston Rich (Nice Work If You Can Get It) adds spice as chorus girl “Anytime Annie” while Alex Cone (Newsies, Mary Poppins) dazzles in the role of Billy Lawlor. Of course, they aim to please Chip Collins (Million Dollar Quartet), Pretty Lady’s Director and Producer.

42nd Street is directed by David Swicegood with musical direction by Greg Boatwright, choreography by Joy Alexander, costumes by Janet Kile and scenic/lighting design by Danny Harrington.

The show is sponsored by The Barnette Agency, Jim Hudson Automotive and Church Mutual.
