$580,870 awarded by Greenville Women Giving at annual meeting

Total Grants Surpass $6 Million
Greenville Women Giving, a 560+ member local philanthropic organization, awarded $580,870 in grants last evening during its annual meeting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Since its founding in 2006, Greenville Women Giving has granted more than $6 million to 79 different Greenville County non-profits in five areas: Arts and Culture, Education, Environment, Health, and Human Services.
The Greenville Women Giving 2019 Grant Awardees are as follows:
CHILDREN’S CANCER PARTNERS OF THE CAROLINAS – $60,000 over 2 years in support of the Greenville Childhood Cancer Special Needs Fund to provide financial, logistical and emotional assistance to families whose children are battling cancer, and to improve their overall quality of life.
CITY OF GREENVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT – $100,000 over 2 years to restore and rejuvenate the Reedy River through the entire length of Unity Park. This will create a natural stormwater ecosystem, increase green space, encourage river access, and promote environmental education.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY – $88,506 to create a secure, climate-controlled construction warehouse. This will result in the implementation of a bulk buying strategy, greater leveraging of tools and staff, and the ability to continue working on days with inclement or extreme weather.
PENDLETON PLACE – $83,048 to renovate and expand the bathrooms at the John I. Smith House (circa 1919) residential foster care facility for teen girls. This project will add an additional shower, which will make a critical difference in a home that holds up to 10 teenage girls.
SENIOR ACTION – $100,000 to construct state-of-the-art music and art studios within Senior Action’s new Flagship Center. The art and music programs are among the most popular of the programs for this organization serving nearly 5000 seniors annually.
SWITCH – $69,316 over 2 years to provide holistic case management to and advocacy for women (including minors as young as 14) who have been victimized, working hand-in-hand with them to build customized roadmaps to take control of their lives. The project will add a care coordinator, partially fund a clinical director and support the Restoration Fund.
YouthBASE – $80,000 to create a second YouthBASE site to provide individualized academic and social skills for at-risk students in the Judson/Welcome community. YouthBASE is a proven model and this project will double the capacity of the organization to ensure more children receive early intervention and stay on track for high school graduation.
About Greenville Women Giving
Founded in 2006 as a special initiative of the Community Foundation of Greenville, GWG is a nonprofit organization whose purposes are both educational and philanthropic. Greenville Women Giving sponsors year-round educational opportunities for its members and guests, designed to inform about specific Greenville community needs. Its members contribute annually to a collective pool that is distributed to local nonprofits, following a membership-led grants review process and vote. Accomplishing together what most cannot do individually, the group focuses on funding high-impact ($50,000-$100,000) initiatives in the areas of arts and culture, education, environment, health, and human services within Greenville County.
