Acclaimed Poet and Teaching Artist, Glenis Redmond, to Grace Laurens Library
March 3, 2024Laurens County Public Library is pleased to welcome Glenis Redmond, an acclaimed poet and teaching artist, on March 7th at 5pm. As the first Poet Laureate of Greenville County and a distinguished Kennedy Center Teaching Artist, Redmond brings a wealth of experience and accolades to the Laurens Library.
With a career spanning almost three decades, Glenis Redmond has left an indelible mark as a poet and educator. She holds the prestigious title of a Cave Canem alumna and has been honored with the Governor’s Award, the highest arts recognition in South Carolina. Her recent induction into the South Carolina Academy of Authors in 2022 further underscores her significant contributions to the literary landscape.
Throughout her extensive career, Redmond has served as the Poet-in-Residence for the Peace Center in Greenville and the State Theatre in New Brunswick, NJ. Additionally, she has dedicated seventeen years as a Kennedy Center Teaching Artist, conducting poetry workshops for school districts nationwide.
During her visit to Laurens Library (1017 W. Main Street), Ms. Redmond will share excerpts from her notable works, including “The Listening Skin” and “Praise Songs for David Drake.” This literary event is free and open to the public, offering an opportunity for the community to engage with and appreciate the artistry of an accomplished poet.
