Laurens County Community Theatre is Ready to Entertain You with “Breaking Up is Hard to Do”
May 27, 2024Get ready to be swept off your feet as the Laurens County Community Theatre prepares to dazzle audiences with their upcoming musical, “Breaking Up is Hard to Do.” Featuring the timeless songs of Neil Sedaka, this musical promises wonderful evening of music and entertainment.
Scheduled to take place at the Clinton High School Auditorium, the performances will be held on June 7, 8, 13, and 14 at 7:30 PM, with a matinee on June 15 at 3:00 PM. This eagerly anticipated production showcases the talents of local performers, bringing to life Sedaka’s beloved hits in a lively and heartwarming performance.
Meet the cast:
Gabe Green, the unlikely hero of “Breaking Up,” is portrayed by Charlie Thompson. Gabe develops feelings for jilted Marge and learns to stand up for himself. Charlie, who began his stage career at age six, describes theatre as magic. His favorite song from the show is “Love Will Keep Us Together.”
Lois Verner, Marge’s ditzy best friend known for her impulsive decisions and good-hearted intentions, is played by Dani Trent. Dani recently starred as Ariel in LCCT’s “The Little Mermaid” and enjoys various artsy hobbies like painting, music, reading, fashion, and makeup.
Esther Simowitz, the headstrong owner of Esther’s Paradise Resort, is brought to life by Amy Link. With vast stage experience, Amy’s favorite roles include Eliza Doolittle in “My Fair Lady” and Sister Mary Amnesia in “Nunsense.” As the music director for the show, Amy’s favorite songs are “Laughter in the Rain” and “Love Will Keep Us Together.”
Harvey Feldman, an aging comedian secretly in love with Esther, is portrayed by LCCT veteran Lesslie Blakely. Lesslie’s favorite role was A. P. Carter in “Keep on the Sunny Side.” In real life, Lesslie is a business owner, chemist, and devoted grandfather, who also heads up the LCCT Board of Directors. His favorite song in the show is “Happy Birthday, Sweet Sixteen.”
Del Delmonaco, the self-proclaimed heartthrob headlining Esther’s Paradise Resort, is played by Holly Hollingshead. Holly’s favorite “Breaking Up” song is “Stupid Cupid.” He moved to Clinton last year from Ogden, Utah, and enjoys music and working on cars. He can often be found playing guitar with local bands.
Marge Gelman, left at the altar and classic girl-next-door with big dreams, is played by Mary Babb Davis. Mary Babb, who started theater at age seven, fondly recalls hearing “Calendar Girl” in her grandparents’ car. She is a rising senior at Laurens High School and enjoys art, literature, and watching scary movies.
“Breaking Up is Hard to Do” is not just a musical journey through Sedaka’s iconic repertoire; it’s a celebration of community spirit and the arts in Laurens County.
