South Carolina Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Lightsey Visits Laurens County

Laurens County recently welcomed South Carolina Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Lightsey for a day-long tour showcasing the county’s economic achievements, infrastructure, and future development opportunities. The visit provided an important platform for county leaders to highlight Laurens County’s growth potential.

Laurens County Administrator Thomas Higgs emphasized the productivity of the meeting, which included discussions on economic development, a tour of fire-affected areas in downtown Clinton, a visit to Nucor’s Laurens facility, and a review of infrastructure opportunities. “Team Laurens County was able to provide SC Commerce with a snapshot of where we are and where we’re headed, highlighting the unmatched strength of our workforce,” said Higgs.

Jonathan Coleman, President and CEO of the Laurens County Development Corporation (LCDC) also expressed pride in presenting the county’s assets. “We were honored to welcome S.C. Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Lightsey to Laurens County today. Following a productive lunch and engaging discussions about local developments, Nucor generously hosted our group for a company overview and tour of their Laurens facility, which produces insulated metal panels,” Coleman shared.

Secretary Lightsey’s visit highlighted the strong partnerships fueling economic development across the region, while showcasing the workforce and infrastructure initiatives driving growth in Laurens County. With ongoing support from state leadership, the county is well-positioned to expand its economic impact within South Carolina.
