Graham welcomes over $200 million investment in U.S. Coast Guard Base Charleston
May 12, 2026U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) celebrated the U.S. Coast Guard’s announcement approving $212 million in funding to enhance readiness at Base Charleston in North Charleston. The Coast Guard stated that these funds will be used to improve the installation’s pier infrastructure and for the construction of a new medical and dental facility, among other mission-critical initiatives.
The funding for these investments was included as a part of the One Big Beautiful Bill. As Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, Graham led the effort to push this legislation through the Senate, which included historic funding for modernizing the Coast Guard’s capabilities.
“The Coast Guard’s announcement today, greenlighting multiple projects that will substantially upgrade operations at Base Charleston, is welcome news. It is imperative this base has the necessary tools to protect South Carolina’s coastline and prevent deadly drugs, such as fentanyl, from reaching our shores.” said Senator Graham. “These projects were made possible by the One Big Beautiful Bill’s generational funding for the Coast Guard. I was proud to help President Trump advance this legislation through the Senate, and I’m pleased that this funding is directly supporting members of the Coast Guard serving in South Carolina.”
“I am excited for the incredible potential these projects have to improve the welfare of our Servicemembers and their families, to homeport our future fleet of Offshore Patrol Cutters and to operationalize the generous investments being made in our Service by the American people,” said Vice Admiral Jo-Ann Burdian, commander of Coast Guard Atlantic Area. “Our people are our greatest asset, and everything we do on their behalf, to ensure they are ready, trained and well-supported will enable us to act with clarity, cohesion, and purpose to deliver the outcomes our Nation expects.”
