A Baby Giraffe and Big Summer Fun Await at the Greenville Zoo

June 10, 2025

Families looking for a summer adventure just up the road from Laurens County don’t have to look far—especially if your kids love animals. The Greenville Zoo has welcomed a special new addition this season: a baby giraffe, and he’s quickly becoming a favorite among visitors.

Born on June 7 to Autumn and Miles, the healthy male calf has captured hearts with his long legs, curious eyes, and wobbly first steps.  Guests can now spot him in the giraffe yard with his mother, where he spends time exploring, resting, and getting used to curious onlookers.

The Greenville Zoo, located in Cleveland Park just off I-385 in downtown Greenville, is home to more than 80 species from around the world. In addition to giraffes, visitors can see red pandas, Amur leopards, anteaters, orangutans, and African lions. Interactive learning stations and zookeeper talks are held regularly, making the zoo visit both fun and educational.

This summer, the zoo also features:

  • Zoo Tots and Zoo Camp – hands-on programs for kids from preschool to middle school, where they can learn about animal habitats, behaviors, and conservation.

  • Wild for Reading Wednesdays – a storytime series hosted at the zoo’s amphitheater, combining books and animal encounters.

  • Evening Safari Events – perfect for date nights or family evenings, with after-hours access, food trucks, and live music on select Fridays.

The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last admission at 4 p.m. Summer visitors are encouraged to arrive early to beat the heat and catch the animals when they’re most active.

Can’t make the trip just yet? You can still catch a glimpse of the new little giraffe from home through the Greenville Zoo’s Giraffe Cam, which offers a live stream of the giraffe exhibit throughout the day.

Whether you’re heading up from Laurens for a day trip or looking to entertain visiting family, the Greenville Zoo offers a memorable outing where kids can experience wildlife up close—and maybe even spot the newest giraffe stretching his legs.
